Korean Folk Song Feature Of
Music Concert, Nov. 10

The orchestra and choral groups of the Maine West music department will present their first concert of the year Friday, November 10, at 8 p.m. in the auditorium. The program offers a wide variety of music ‑ from a Korean folk song to selections from a Broadway musical.

The orchestras, under the direction of Mrs. Mildred Heldorn, have an interesting program planned. The Junior orchestra will play "America the Beautiful" by Ward and Buchtel, "Chorus of Huntsmen" from "Der Freischitz" by Weber and Gordan, and "Three Folk Tunes" arranged by Muller. The string quartet, dressed in 18 century costumes, will play "Trinklled" by Beethoven, "Minuet" by Bacchineri, and "Jealousy" by Gade and Harms.

The String orchestra will open with the lively "Presto" from "Three Divertimento Movements" by Mozart, arranged by Woodhouse, and the lovely "Melody" by Brahms, arranged by Steg.

Two old fiddler's tunes ‑ the "Pizzicato Polka" by Johann and Joseph Strauss, arranged by H. Sopkin, and the "Concert Square Dance" by Harold Davidson ‑ will also be included. The Concert orchestra will entertain with the "Allegro" from the "Fifth Symphony" by Beethoven and Woodhouse, "Intermezzo sinfonico aus Gavalleria Rusticana" by P. Mascagni, and selections from "Camelot" by Lerner and Loewe, arranged by H. Bennett.

The art department will provide scenery for the selections from "Camelot."

The choral groups, under the direction of Mr. Wilbur Schafer, have also prepared an interesting program. The Girls' chorus will present "Let There Be Song" by Gustav Klemm and "I Love a Parade" by Harold Arlen. The newly re‑organized Choraliers will sing "Begone Dull Care," a 17 century madrigal song arranged by Gordan Jacob, and "She Is So Dear" by Michael Praetorius.

The Girls Glee club will sing "O Lovely Night" from "The Tales of Hoffman" by Offenbach and "Autumn Leaves" by Mercer, Prevert, and Kosma. The A Cappella choir will open with "Psalm 100" by Ralph Guenther and close with "Red Wing" by Kerry Mills, arranged by Harry Simeone. They will also sing "Arirang" ‑ a Korean folk song arranged by J. Stanley Sheppard ‑ and "I Hear a Voice A‑Prayin' " by Houston Bright.

Admission is by activity tickets, Music Booster cards, or $1.
