Semi-finalist Likes Books

By Dan Hayden

Larry Lashway '62, one of the Merit semi‑finalists chosen from Maine West, confesses he has study habits, or lack of study habits, just like the rest of us.

"I do my homework whenever I get the chance and then still end up doing my English themes during lunch," admits Larry. He finds this method rather hectic at times and wouldn't recommend it, but he has managed to earn mostly A's during the past three years.

Being interested in writing, Larry is co‑sports editor for the Westerner and also writes sports stories for the Des Plaines Journal.

Aside from writing, Larry's great love is reading. He has collected 700 pocket books, mostly about science fiction and history. In conjunction with these two interests he is a member of the Science‑fiction club and is president of the Maine West Historical society.

In preparation for college, Larry has been writing for booklets and filers from prospective schools along with earning and saving his money. He has tentatively decided on either the University of Wisconsin or Lawrence college in Appleton, Wisconsin.
