Tri-S Hopes CARE Drive Will
Net $300 Today

Tri‑S will conclude its third annual CARE drive today after a three‑day campaign. The money is being collected by Tri‑S members in the homerooms. Contributors were given pins.

Driving for a total of $300, the club is attempting to top last year's total of $283. This money collected last year was given to the CARE organization for forwarding to Italy. Mr. Eric Edstrom, sponsor of Tri‑S, received several letters thanking the club for its thoughtfulness.

"The CARE drive," explained Mr. Edstrom, "is a way for individual Americans to help people and nations who are not so fortunate as we."

Other recent activities of Tri‑S have included a display on Soviet propaganda in the exhibition case by the auditorium in connection with a unit on Communism being taught in the government classes. The material was gathered from an advertising agent.

In the future club members also plan to have a display put up commemorating the Civil War.

Art Club

Mr. Richard Strand, who is a commercial artist at Strand studios in Chicago, will be here for the Art club on Thursday, November 29, at 3:20 in the student lounge. Mr. Strand will give a talk on the jobs open in the commercial art field and also what commercial art entails.

All interested students, whether they are taking an art course or not, are urged to attend.

In the near future, Art club will have engagement calanders for sale. Each of the 12 months of the year will be topped‑off by a scene from school. Each of these scenes will be painted by art students. They will be sold in the cafeteria soon, so don't forget to get yours.

Home Economics Club

The Home Economics club is for any girl who has a general interest in home economics, according to Mrs. Marian Pedersen, the sponsor. Meetings are held once a month concerning a topic of general interest.

The Home Economics club board includes Miss Willa Mitchell and Mrs. Pedersen, sponsors; Pam Meyer '62, president; Barbara Conroy '64, vice‑president.

Stagecraters Standard

"What color should the fireplace be?" "Where's the orange paint?" "How can this hole in the set be patched?" These are some of the usual questions that arise from members of the Stagecrafters club as they perform their duties.

Actually this organization is a great asset to almost any state production at Maine West. "The purpose of the Stagecrafters is to give students interested in building sets, putting on make‑up, changing scenery, and other phases of theatrical techniques a chance to obtain actual practice in these activities," related Mr. Robert Urasky, sponsor of the club.

The officers, Frank Vaia '63, president; Paulette Froelicher '63, secretary; and Gary Riess '63, vice‑president, have planned an agenda for the coming year. This includes a moneymaking project, a Christmas party, working on the V‑show, seeing a play, and concluding the year with a banquet to honor new Thespian society members.
