Gymnastics Debut December I

Maine West's varsity gymnasts will host the Evanston Wildkits on Friday, December 1, at 4:30 in B‑Wing gym to open a new season. This promises to be a tough meet as Evanston took eleventh in state last year.

"Our team promises to be a strong one this year," commented Coach Sid Drain. "Out of eight of last year's lettermen we lost only the services of Joe Menger, one of

our ring men. We still have the support of Sal Defalco '62, performing on side-horse and rings; Jim Lunetto '62, also working side-horse and rings; Tom Janssens '62, our first man on trampoline; Bill Downing '62, our best tumbler who took 13th in state last year; Dave Scully '62, working parallel bars and high bar; and Jack Petersen '63, another tumbler,"

The gymnasts recruited 25 freshmen, doubling the amount gained last year. Having only one coach this year, the varsity players will have to double as both team‑mates and mentors for the frosh‑soph team,
