Maine West's Warriors won their fifth straight game 22‑14 on the muddy, nearly turfless Maine East field by handing Prospect's Knights their second consecutive defeat. The victory gave Maine West a 5‑2 record placing them in a third place tie with Prospect in the Interim league.
Prospect had an opportunity to repeat as Interim champs, but Warriors Ray Leonardson and Al Klehr scored all the points necessary to dethrone the Knights before the first four minutes of the game were over.
Receiving the kickoff, Ray Leonardson ran the ball back 93 yards for the first touchdown. Dan Humay made the conversion. Bruce Andrise returned the Warriors' kickoff 11 yards, but a penalty moved the ball back to Prospect's 26. Seven yards later the Warrior offense took over on their 37 followering the punt. After no gain on the first play, Al Klehr went off tackle 63 yards for Maine's second TD. Dan Humay kicked another extra point.

Tom Edman and Chuck Weil tackled Andrise in the end zone on the next play adding two more points on West's side of the scoreboard. A few plays later Prospect recovered a fumble from West and proceeded to drive 42 yards for a touchdown and extra point. The ball was traded once more before the half.
Prospect again marched downfield after taking the kickoff on the 50. Bruce Andrise scored again and the extra point was good making the score 16‑14. Two plays later Ray Leonardson ran 70 yards for another touchdown on a nearly fumbled reverse. The extra point was missed.
Dave Larsen was tackled on the five yard line after running 45 yards on a pass interception in the last play of the game.
