Dear Editor:
What is Maine West doing to promote world peace?
President Kennedy points out that peace will come about because of understanding between peoples of different countries, not because of governmental agreements. The logic of this statement cannot be questioned. Maine West can promote understanding through the student foreign exchange program.
The exchange program enables a student from a foreign country to live in America and attend school here for one year. This program is effective because:
|
|
1. Through close contact with the American family with whom he lives, and through participation in school classes and activities, the student's misconceptions (if any) of American life are cleared up.
2. Many of us will learn to appreciate the cultural differences and also realize the cultural differences and the similarities in personal principles.
A foreign exchange student is carefully selected to represent his country and will also represent his experiences in America to his own people when he returns.
Are we foresighted enough to take advantage of this golden opportunity?
What IS Maine West doing to promote world peace?
