A Christmas Gift for Him

By Vicki Webster

Christmas is the season of the year
When many girls come face to face
With the question that invites fear
And leads their minds a merry chase;

What to buy him for Christmas.

Boys may proclaim in undying oath
That to shop for a girl is something to fear,
But, boys, take heed, it is you who cause both
Worry and tears and not Christmas cheer.

A man is hard to shop for.

If you wish to make a girl happy,
Give her something to show that you care;
Some dangling jewelry, a box of taffy,
A record album you both can share.

A kind word will please a girl.

But there's nothing that you can buy for a boy
Whether clothes or money, food or drink.
Nothing will turn his heart to joy.
Well‑nothing of which a girl can think.

The sweater is sure to be a bad style.
The shirt is always the wrong size.
The radio will have the wrong type of dial.
This is awful: Hey, listen, guys;

You're awfully hard to please!

So girls unite, and take my advice.
When Christmas rolls around this year,
Forget the present; don't think twice.
Just look sweetly at him and say, "Dear,

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!"
