VOL. III, NO. 5
DECEMBER 15, 1961

THE FIRST THREE WEEKS of action have left only two teams in the Interim league with unblemished records. Standings before tonight's games showed Wheaton and Morton West on top of the heap with marks of 4‑0. Maine West and Willowbrook are tied for second with identical 3‑1 records. There have been few surprises this season, and about the only team that has not lived up to pre‑season expectations h a s been Proviso West, Maine's opponent tomorrow night, who has managed to win just one game out of four, and that against Deerfield. There have been several near misses, however. Wheaton actually had to come from behind against Glenbrook last week, and even then barely won the game, 44‑40. Morton West had its hands full, too, also coming from behind to beat Niles West 60‑51.

UNLESS INTERIM OFFICIALS come up with another solution, East and West Leyden will play one game less than the rest of the league. A Leyden high school board ruling prohibits the two schools from competing with each other in regular‑season interscholastic sports. The schools are already a game behind the other teams. A similar rule prevents Maine West from playing Maine East in anything but tournament play, but no scheduling difficulties have arisen because the schools are in different leagues.

INTRAMURAL BASKETBALL is now well under way, with 31 teams competing on all four levels. Action will continue through February. Weight‑lifting practice is open to all boys Tuesday and Thursday after school in the indoor track area. A weight‑lifting tournament will be held sometime after Christmas, according to intramurals director Miley Hotchkiss.
