Gymnasts Top M‑E, 80‑52

The Maine West gymnastics team downed Morton East 80‑52 last Friday, bringing their season record to 2‑2. The musclemen won four events, tied one, lost one, and captured five out of the possible six first places. Tom Janssens '62, Bill Downing '62, and Bill Hattory '62, scored first, second, and third places on trampoline, giving the trampmen a perfect score of 16‑6. Jim Lunetto '62, took first on side‑horse, while Sal Defalco '62, and Rog Halvorsen '63, trailed with fourth and fifth edging out Morton 12‑10.

Behind Dave Scully's second, the high barmen managed to tie the horizontal bar event 11-11. Parallel bars seemed to be the Warriors' weakest event.

They were edged out by Morton 12-10, with Scully tieing for first and Gerry Peterson '63, following with a fourth. Defalco, Lunetto, and Scully captured first, second, and third, giving the ringmen a 15-7 edge over Morton. The tumblers gave the team another sweep when Downing, Fred Bach '64, and Jack Peterson '63, came through with first, second, and third.

On Friday, December 1, the gymnasts dropped their home premier to Evanston 16 1/2 ‑ 55 1/2. Parallel bars and tumbling were the only events won by the Warriors. Scully and Downing took the only firsts for the musclemen on these two events. The Wildkits swept the gymnasts on high bar and edged them out by a considerable margin in the other events.
