Marie Expresses Thanks

Dear Editor,
I think our school could do without the Brotherhood Society. This, as are many other voted‑on‑issues, is a popularity contest. I will admit that some of the members are worthy of being classified as friendly, but others are only friendly in their own crowd.

Students who vote do not stop to think if they are voting for a friend or a genuinely friendly person. They should form their own opinion and should not vote for a suggested person. If one doesn't know who he's voting for, he can't know whether the person is friendly.

People who are so friendly do not need a material reward for their friendliness. Friendliness is a wonderful thing, not to be publicized as a contest.

Dear Editor,
Sometime in your life there will be a crisis, perhaps many. Our goal should be to look upon this crisis by trying to understand why it happened and what you can do to ease the pain. You will find that easing the pain of others helps to ease your own.

So what should we do in the meantime? Sit around and worry about the crisis that may or may not occur? No, of course not. We should look around us; behold and appreciate our family, friends, and loved ones; and thank God for giving us that moment to appreciate His gifts. When you begin to argue or complain, stop and think of what would happen if this person you're arguing with were suddenly taken away from you. Don't let it become depressing, but for your OWN sake, let this thought cross your mind, for that exact moment occurs only once, and its memory is all you'll have left afterwards.

In closing, I wish to take this opportunity to thank everyone who expressed their sympathy and especially those who contributed to the flowers for our home from the Senior class and the cast of "Our Town" at the unexpected death of my father on December 18.
