VOL. III, NO. 6
JANUARY 26, 1962

Did You Stop and Think?

The subject of bringing a foreign exchange student to Maine West was one of the biggest issues in Student Council. The decision was brought before us, the student body. What did we do with this responsibility?

Did we vote without knowing what we were voting for?

When we registered to vote on January 18‑19, did we realize that we were signing our name to a responsibility? We signed our name so that we could go to the polls and vote for an important decision: whether or not we would take the responsibility on our school to establish an idea of American life to a person from another country, be it good or bad.

On January 22‑23, when we received our ballots, did we stop and think before we put our X in the little box? The responsibility that we assumed as we received the ballot should have made us stop and think. Had we investigated the idea, thought about it, and then voted? An opinion of America rested in our vote. If an exchange student goes home with a bad opinion of America will it be our fault?

The decision has been made. Were we right?
