Audio-Visual Personnel Is Efficient,
Coordinated

"Since we receive on an average of about 30 to 40 films a week, a high degree of co‑ordination and efficiency is required on the part of the Audio Visual student personnel," remarked Mr. Verne Brownell, social science teacher and audio visual director.

President of A.V. is Dave Barker '63, and secretaries are Sue Wons '62, and Marilyn Stocking '62. Each student is in charge of the office the period he is in the audio visual room. Audio Visual provides its services for the faculty and students throughout the school year. Its student personnel also provides audio and audio visual accommodations for the Adult Evening classes. For their performances of duties through the year, the student personnel is given a field trip by the school. Shoulder patches for A.V. personnel are on the agenda. The patches are to distinguish A.V. members from the student body.

One of the problems of Audio Visual is that during the week one of three motion picture projectors are misplaced. This is due to the fact that teachers or students borrow equipment from other teachers without notifying the Audio Visual center. It would be appreciated if teachers would not lock the equipment in their closets.

"Teachers are asked to complete their film scheduling as soon as possible," urged Mr. Brownell. He pointed out that film catalogues are available in the library and in the Audio Visual room.

Science Fiction Club

Fanzine, a science fiction magazine, is one of the projects that the Science Fiction club works on at their meetings every other Wednesday, from 3:10 to 4:00 in B217. The club writes many articles for the magazine, and also does some of its art work.

Asked to define science fiction, Joe Mitchell '62, president, replied, "Science fiction is any plausible story with an element of science that veers off into the unknown. Our club's purpose is to foster a better understanding of science fiction. Mr. Kenneth Lindquist of the social science department is sponsor, and Larry Lashway '62, is vice‑president."

The club has a library of over 150 paper back science fiction books. Among some of the hopeful projects is the obtaining of a personal report of the Science Fiction convention on the West coast.
