2 Boys Vie For Top Post
Gymnasiums decorated with colorful posters and resounding with wild music, early morning hail skits, humorous tags, and half asleep candidates who spent the evening before campaigning will soon again invade Maine West to announce the annual election hysteria.
Presidential and secretarial candidates for Student Council will be introduced at pre-election assemblies on February 23.
Candidates for president of Maine West's Student Council are Tom Prochaska, managed by Butch Bending; and Art Behn, managed by Joe Mitchell. Secretarial hopeful is Pat Ritter, managed by Bev Pawelko.
February 26 through March 2 is planned for election week. The date for the final election assemblies will be announced at a later time.
Voting will take place in the student lounge on March 2, during lunch periods and before and after school. Those students who have previously registered for the foreign student issue will not need to do so again; however, one day will be allotted for remaining students to register. Because of last year's success with voting booths, the Council will use them again this year.
Gail Schellin '62, chairman of the organizations committee, commented, "I sincerely hope that kids will help to bring back the somewhat lost spirit by participating in election week activities. Besides all the fun, Student Council elections are of great importance and votes should be cast wisely."
Ballots will be counted by the president, secretary, organizations committee chairman, and faculty advisor of Student Council. The new president and secretary will be announced at the Jitney March 3, from 8 to 11 p.m. Tickets will be 25 cents, school clothes are in order, and dates are not necessary.
