Warriors Win TV Debate
Nervousness was the biggest obstacle that Craig Seitz '62, and Joe Waters '62, had to overcome when they appeared on the CBS television show, "Rebuttal," January 27. Otherwise, these two varsity debaters seem to survive when the three judges unanimously gave the decision to Maine West.
Also having problems with her nerves was Judy Kassnel '62, editor-in-chief of The Westerner, who gave a short but informative talk on Maine West during a brief intermission in the debate. The editor of The Rebel, Thornton Fractional South's newspaper, also spoke on her school.
Barb Trent '64, and Dennis Cable '63 of Thornton Fractional High School south were the opponents, who debated the affirmative side of the question, "Should the federal government extend the minimum wage law coverage?"
Human interest was introduced by second negative speaker, Craig Seitz, who, for a full week before the debate, wrestled with the flu. Debate coaches, Mr. Eric Edstrom history teacher, and Miss Harriet Johnson, English teacher, assumed the role of amateur physicians, but Craig recovered enough to give a winning last rebuttal. However, he was unable to join the debate squad in the victory celebrations held after the show.
