Some students may know Mrs. Mildred Cress as an English I teacher from last year. More, probably, will recognize her as the junior‑senior girls' counselor.
This medium height, fair-complexioned counselor grew up in Montana where she also attended college. She confides she hadn't much choice of going any place else since her father was on the State Board of Education in Montana!
Mrs. Cress reveals that teaching at a school was the furthest thing from her mind when she first started planning her career. She started out in college majoring in journalism and even worked on a local paper during summer vacations. She later changed her major to business administration, because there seemed to be more and better opportunities in this field.

Eventually, she decided that teaching was the best combination with marriage and a family. Her master's degree was taken at the University of Kansas City. She feels "Maine West is a wonderful school with a remarkably fine student body."
A frequent problem for school counselors is skirt lengths. "School clothes are for school and short, short, sport clothes are for sports," is her philosophy. "A skirt for school should be no shorter than midknee."
Mrs. Cress enjoys traveling immensely ‑ Canada, England, Europe, Mexico, and most of the United States are included in her travels. She also enjoys fishing, boating, gardening, and playing bridge.
