Warrior of the West
A term which might well describe Bill Downing '62, would be "Mr. Gymnast of Maine West."

Willie has been a standout on the Warrior gym squad for the past three years. He earned his numerals in his freshman year while still at Maine East, and he lettered in his sophomore year. Last year, as a junior, he was the squad's most valuable player-an honor rarely bestowed upon a junior.
With interests such as steaks, hunting, fishing, and a flashy sports car, Bill has an interesting time. As his high school days draw to a close, he is looking forward to continuing his education at Western Illinois university via a scholarship.

Right now Bill boasts of a clear victory record this year. He has placed first in all of 12 meets. With great respect for his high flying aerialist, Coach Sid Drain believes that Bill is "the best tumbler in the state and has an excellent chance to place first this year in the top competition." For the past two years, Bill has been among the top 15 tumblers in the state.

This hazel-eyed senior mentioned something about being caught on a trampoline in (or was it out of, Bill?) his sister's bloomers as being most embarrassing. He related that he was quite happy after placing first in a recent meet against Prospect, for at the time Prospect's tumbler was also undefeated.
