Honor Society To Hold Tea

March 14 will be the date of National Honor society's tea announcing the election of its new members.

Presiding over this tea will be president Ken Cornelius '62. Other officers of the society are Betty Coffman '62, vice-president; Mary Anna Matteson '62, secretary; and Char Gertz '62, treasurer.

The purpose of this tea will be not only to welcome the new members, but also to give them information about the formal initiation on March 30.

Newly elected members will be notified by invitation to the tea before any official announcement is made. Miss Anne Lauterbach, sponsor of the society, intimated that she hopes the invitations will be out by March 5.

The requirements for entrance into National Honor society are that a junior must be in the upper five per cent of his class and have no grade lower than a "B" for the five semesters he has been in school. A senior must be in the upper 25 per cent of his class and have maintained a "B" average. Leadership, service, and character also enter into the selection of the members.

Election into the society is made by the faculty just after the end of the first semester.

The National Merit Scholarship Qualifying test will be given to juniors Saturday, March 10, at Maine West. The test will last three hours and will cover grammar, social studies and natural science reading, and mathematics and word usage.
