Future Teachers
"We hope to try a new idea with all students interested in teaching," related Fran Ford '62, treasurer of the Future Teachers of America. These bright future teachers plan to aid Maine West teachers while they gain experience by tutoring students.
Other officers of the club are Bill Gundelach '62, president; Sandi Bond '62, vice‑president; Carole Koscal '62, secretary; and Fran Ford '62, treasurer. Miss Lois Kapel and Miss Carol Coffman are the sponsors this year.
Among the speakers who have talked to this group are Mr. Fred Bencriscutto and Mr. Willis Lindeman. Also, Mrs. Ford spoke on the education of the blind and brought a pair of blind twins to demonstrate techniques.
One‑third of the 75 cent membership fee, expected of every student participating in the club's activities, is sent to the Illinois Association of Future Teachers of America where each club member is registered with the state organization. In the future, the FTA hopes to take a field trip to the Spalding school for the physically handicapped and mentally retarded.
