The dreary walls of Maine West have been enlightened this year by the presence of a cute brown‑haired teacher of sophomores, Miss Carol Ann Coffman.
Miss Coffman's scholastic achievements include attending two years at Knox college in Galesburg, Illinois, belonging to the social sorority, Phi Beta Pi, and receiving her bachelors degree at the University of Illinois. "In the future, I hope to get my masters degree at the University of Michigan," remarked Miss Coffman.
Miss Coffman always wanted to be a teacher, but not until she attended college did she decide on being an English teacher.
Knitting, reading, and sports are among Miss Coffman's favorite pastimes. Last summer she combined pleasure and graduate work at the University of Colorado. While she was there, she experienced great difficulty in learning to ride horseback.
In the future, Miss Coffman plans to travel to Europe with Miss Myrna Loring, a fellow English teacher. Miss Coffman advises those who wish to become teachers to be prepared to work hard and be interested in furthering their education.

Hunting and fishing, sports from the "great outdoors" are among the favorite interests and hobbies of Mr. Charles Lawyer, science instructor a t Maine West. He also likes to travel, and, when he gets the chance, he likes to sit back and read a good book.
Mr. Lawyer, teaching at Maine West for his first year, was graduated from Western Illinois university, at Macomb, with a bachelor's degree in education. When Mr. Lawyer was a freshman in college, he was a lineman on the football team. He was born and raised on a Macomb, Illinois farm.
When asked why he liked teaching, he commented, "I like working with young people and other teachers." Mr. Lawyer observed that Maine has one of the best equipped and best organized science departments that he has ever seen.
Besides his regular duties as a teacher, Mr. Lawyer is also an assistant track coach. He reported, "The track team has a lot of good material and with more effort by some of the boys, the team should place high in the conference meet in March."
Mr. Lawyer mentioned that he liked the size of this school, its facilities, and the type of students and teachers at Maine West. He also feels that students could improve school spirit.
