Willowbrook Hosts League Gym Meet

Coach Sid Drain's gymnasts enter the Interim conference meet at Willowbrook tonight and Saturday with a 6‑8 record.

The end of the regular season saw victories over East Leyden, February 23, and Glenbrook, February 17.

The musclemen walked away with all events against Leyden to win 85‑32. Firsts from Tom Janssens and Bill Downing made a clean sweep in tumbling and trampoline. Sal De Falco added two firsts to his already impressive record on the side horse and rings. Terry Bishop, a promising sophomore, came up with a first on high bar, while Dave Scully took top honors on parallel bars.

Parallel bars proved to be the gymnasts' only weakness in the meet with Glenbrook, which they swept 80‑52. The Warrior's side horse and tumbling teams gained 16‑6 victories over the Spartans while Defalco out-muscled his competition o n rings.

On Saturday, March 10, the District meet will be held at Barrington. "The competition is rough in our district," reminded Coach Drain. "But if the boys hit, I'm confident at least four will go downstate. Downing, who is undefeated this year, has a good chance to place in the top five in the state. Defalco, Scully, and Janssens also should do well," he continued.
