Current Spanish Agenda Foresees Spring Trip

An excursion to Chicago is on this year's agenda of the Spanish club.

Sometime this spring the Spanish club, sponsored by Mr. Donald Anderson, will make the trip to Chicago to have dinner and see a Spanish movie.

"The restaurant and movie have not yet been decided on," commented Maria Salazar '63, treasurer of the club. Other officers include Ben Lyson '62, president; Marcia Relph '62, vice‑president; and Connie Carlson '62, secretary.

The club meets once a month on Thursday after school in C-214.

Industrial Arts Club

To promote the industrial arts program and the general welfare of its members is the purpose of the Industrial arts and technical design club. Started by its sponsors Mr. Roy Hulfachor, Mr. Raymond Matkovic, and Mr. Robert Peikan, industrial arts teachers, the club will be accepting new members at the beginning of the fourth quarter.

To become a member, any boy who has had at least one semester of industrial arts with a "C" average, is eligible.

Terry Pestel '62, and James Johansen '63, temporary officers, are now developing a constitution and getting ready for new membership. When enough members have joined, election of officers will be held. To apply for membership, boys should see either the sponsors or one of the officers.

Art Club

"To promote a better feeling towards art is the purpose of the Art club at Maine West," related Kristine Hatfield '62, president, secretary, and treasurer of this creative organization. Gayle Bauman '62, is vice‑president.

Future plans of the Art club include preparing for the annual all‑school art exhibit to be held in April or May. At this time entries will be displayed outside the auditorium for one week. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winning entries.

"All forms of art and craft will be accepted for the art exhibit. Also, any student is eligible," disclosed Mr. Richard Meyer, chairman of the art department at Maine West. A visit to the Art institute of Chicago is also being contemplated by the club.

"Membership in the Art club is open to all students, and more students should join because this is really a great club," urged Kristine.

Past activities of the Art club include selling 1962 calendars and taking a sketching trip to the Morton arboretum.

German Club

Seeing German movies at the Davis theater is one of the activities planned for the German club. Meetings on the last Wednesday of every month feature refreshments and entertainment, which frequently includes movies of Germany. Semester dues of 50 cents are spent on refreshments and bus fares for field trips.

Officers of the club are president, Evi Bengston '63; vice-president, Ray Fischer '62; secretary, Marrianne Manke '62; and treasurer, Rosemary Bittel '62.

Sponsors are German teachers Miss Rosalie Streng and Mrs. Lucinda Karger.
