"Remember, you are a leader 24 hours a day, not five hours a week." This statement reflects the philosophy of the girls' physical education leader program. Two weeks ago, 84 sophomore girls were selected for participation in the leadership program starting in September of 1962.

In order to be considered eligible for selection, a girl must hold a "C" average in her academic subjects, and a "B" in physical education. She must be highly recommended by three members of the faculty and receive the final approval of her physical education teacher.

As juniors in the program, the girls are given an intense, thorough program in physical education, covering all phases of the curriculum.

They are trained in class organization, safety, rules, strategy, and officiating.

As seniors, they are assigned as class assistants, being given a great many responsibilities necessary for the success of the physical education program.

Being a leader is an honor but involves a great deal of hard work. Notebooks, tests, ratings, skill tests, and teaching assignments are just a few of the things expected of a leader. Scholastic achievement must be maintained, as well as unreproachable character, honesty, punctuality, and appearance.
