5 Gymnasts Enter State

The gymnasts' hopes are high for the state meet at Willowbrook this Friday and Saturday after placing five squadmen in the District meet. This was good for sixth place with much of the competition being on a college caliber level. Competing in state preliminaries will be Terry Bishop, who scored a tenth on the horizontal bars; Sal Defalco, eighth in the rings; Bill Downing, second in tumbling; Jim Lunetto, eighth in sidehorse; and Dave Scully, tenth on parallel bars.

The gymnasts finished the '61‑'62 season by placing fourth with 24 1/2 points in the important conference meet. Willowbrook took the meet with 147 points while Proviso West and Prospect trailed with 82 1/2 and 66 1/2, respectively. Five Warriors qualified in the meet. Bill Downing, who is undefeated in conference, wasn't up to paras he took a third in tumbling, while Fred Bach '64 followed with a seventh. Sal DeFalco tied for fifth on still rings. The only juniors placing in the meet were Jerry Peterson, scoring a ninth on parallel bars and Rog Halvorsen, with a sixth on sidehorse.

The Warriors fared better at the Interim conference meet at Willowbrook on March 3, as they finished fourth with 17 points, half a point better than Maine East.
