CHANGES IN DEPARTMENT chairmen this year found Miss Corrine Clark returning to physical education after working on courses for a year at Indiana university in preparation for receiving her doctorate.
Mr. Otto Kohler came back after a leave to head the social science department. He attended the University of California under a John Hay fellowship financed by the Ford foundation.
NOT NEW TO Maine schools, but teaching at West for the first time, is Mr. George Blanas, who took over the chairmanship of the art department after Mr. Meyer left to continue his education at Normal.

EXPANSION of the teachers' cafeteria was completed during the summer. It now encompasses about half of what was previously the honor study. The remaining part of the room is now the social room, a meeting place for any school organizations which requests it in advance.
DEFEAT OF the referendum for an increase in the educational tax fund was by only 150 votes last Saturday. The Board of Education feels that since the vote was so close it should resubmit the issue to the voters in the near future. The voting ran 1,884 yes and 2,034 no. Thirteen votes had to be thrown out.
A NEW FRESHMAN personnel office was made from the teachers' lounge. The faculty staffing the new office are Mrs. June Carlson, secretary; Mrs. Helen Stuart, girls' counselor; and Mr. Fred Bencriscutto, freshman boys. Mr. Ralph Caprio also has his office in this section which is located on the north side of the main entrance.
