Mr. Glenn Hoffman, the new Student Council sponsor, urges! all students to take a concrete interest in the Student Council's achievements. He adds that the council's achievements can be only as big as the students' interest in them. A graduate of Valparaiso, Mr. Hoffman received his M.A. at Northwestern university. He teaches advanced placement US History, and was acting chairman of the Social Science department last year during Mr. Otto Kohler's absence.
"The Student Council can teach Maine West quite a bit," Mr. Hoffman reveals. "I have a great deal of confidence in the council; serving them is important to me."
The Student Council sponsored the Newcomer's party, September 14. Social committee chairman Diane Clarke '64, organized the party. Refreshments and entertainment were provided by the council.
The Service committee is assigning hall monitors, and working out the furnishing of the locker rooms with mirrors and the underground track with clock. The chairman of this committee is Ricky Fulle '65.

Linda Drews '65, replaced Randy Burmeister '63, as Sportsmanship‑Citizenship committee chairman. Donna Wolf '64, is chairman of the committee working on the Dial Tone.
Representatives have been assigned to homerooms, and will report Student Council decisions and proceedings to them.
There is $2,069 in the council treasury. Seventy dollars was made on last year's memory record. The council voted to continue this project. About $87 was made from Pepsi bottle caps donated by students. Radio Free Europe received the funds.
The Organizations committee is discussing the theme for Homecoming floats. Frank Vaia '63, is the chairman.
Student Council officers for this year are Tom Prochaska '63, president; Jim Burgett '63, vice‑president; Pat Ritter '63, secretary; and Carol Barrett '63, treasurer.
