The injury‑riddled Maine West Warriors will travel to Deerfield tomorrow to take on the Cardinals at 2 p.m. The Warriors will be looking for their first conference victory and their second victory of the season. The Warriors now have a streak of six successive victories continuing from last season and they will be seeking to continue this streak. The Cardinals will be out to avenge their opening game loss to Ridgewood by the score of 25‑19.
The Warriors won their first game of the season by defeating Peoria Central 7‑0. This is the third straight year that the Warriors have defeated the Peoria team. West's lone touchdown came in the first quarter as Gary Kraft ran 28 yards on a reverse around the left end. Dan Humay split the posts for the extra point.
Outstanding performances were turned in by Gary Kraft, Dan Humay, and Rick DeKreek. Kraft played a very fine game on offense, as did Humay. Humay completed 6 out of 11 passes and carried the ball 26 times for 120 yards. DeKreek played an excellent game on both offense and defense. Many times during the game DeKreek broke into the Peoria backfield and dumped the quarterback for a loss. Also, mid-way through the fourth quarter,

Humay faded back and connected with DeKreek for a 65 yard touchdown pass only to have it called back because of a penalty.
Klehr Injured
Fullback Al Klehr, acting captain for the night, was taken to the hospital during half time to have stitches put in a deep cut over his left eye. Klehr received the cut late in the second quarter. Another blow came to the Warriors when tailback Dan Humay broke his ankle late in the game. It is expected that Humay will be out of the lineup approximately four weeks. It was also learned that end Al Waters had broken a bone in his hand. These injuries coupled with the injuries already suffered by returning lettermen Randy Burmeister and Dave Aegerter could prove fatal to the Warriors. It is expected, however, that Waters and Klehr will be back in action against Deerfield tomorrow.
The Warriors defensive team also has to be commended for a well‑played game. The defense not only held Peoria scoreless, but they picked off three Peoria passes to stop threats.
