Dept. Prepares Students For All
Areas of Business

The business education department, with its excellent teachers, superb machines, and variety of courses, is qualified to give any student the necessary training for all areas of business.

The business education program has been organized to' insure vocational competency and to develop a sound social and economic understanding in the students who elect the program for occupational purposes.

Some pupils take business subjects for personal use, thus gaining a general educational background.

More than 100 of the graduates of 1962 majored in business education. Ninety per cent went to work after graduating, and 10 per cent went to college. Not only universities, but also the business colleges and the junior colleges are popular with the business education student. About 1,400 students are now taking business education.

The numerous machines in this department are useful in the fields of business. Some of them are the typewriters, both electric and manual; the new IBM Selectric; the calculators; the dictaphone; the comptometers; the printing calculators; the adding machines; the ditto machines; and the electric keypunch machine.

The business education department offers 13 courses: general business, personal typing I and II, clerical bookkeeping, clerical office practice, commercial law, steno I and II, accounting I and II, English IV‑business, and business math. Students are encouraged to take one year of typing before graduation. The teachers in business stress not only the very important vocational skills, but also an understanding of our country's economic situation. The work program, which offers the opportunity to earn money while still going to school, contributes to education.

"We feel that the students in our area are very well qualified to go to work or to college," Mr. O. Brown, chairman of the business education department, explained.
