"My most exciting experience at Maine West has been breaking the record for the mile run," exclaimed John Schneider, '63.

Though he has been out for track only in his junior and senior years, John holds the mile record with a time of 4:40. He accredits this feat to hard work, which he explains really pays off.

John lettered last fall while out for cross‑country and is now trying for his second letter in track. He has acquired the nickname of "Liberty," but he will not disclose its meaning.

Western Illinois university is John's choice of a college. He is planning to major in English.

John's special interest is eating; he especially likes Wheaties (breakfast of champions) and ice cream. His pet peeves are girls' wild hair styles and heavy make‑up, and people who talk too much.
