Tennis Squad Hosts Bulldogs

The Maine West tennis team, coached by Mr. Roy Kearns, will host the Waukegan Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. this afternoon. In their first meet of the season the netmen lost to Blue Island 3‑2.

The varsity squad is made up of 12 members. Cliff Vogel and Bob Poyer, both juniors, are expected to be of great help to the team because they were doubles champions of the conference last season. The team has three returning lettermen in Terry Albers, Jim Gaverth, and Steve Priest. Tom Kelly and Frank Dennis also will be counted on during the coming season.

Last year the racketmen finished fourth in the conference. According to Jim Gaverth the team should do better this year. "Deerfield will probably give us our greatest trouble this season with Prospect also being tough," forecasted Gaverth.

"If our team is to further itself this year," commented coach Kearns, "it will need the backing of the student body. Every athlete performs better when someone is there to cheer him on. The more people there are to cheer for the team, the better the team finishes."

The frosh‑soph squad this year consists of 14 freshmen and 10 sophomores.
