Warrior of the West

"Beating Highland Park 12‑0 in last year's State District final was my biggest thrill on the Maine West baseball team," cited pitcher Art "Chip" Allen. The "Chipper" has helped to lead the diamondmen to two straight Interim league championships. Last season his record was an amazing 13‑1, but more unbelievable, in three years Chip has accumulated 33 victories while only losing a mere three games.

The 5 foot 9 inch senior plans to attend either Rollins college in Winter Park, Florida, or Bradley university in Peoria, Illinois. He rates barbequed spare ribs and lobster as his favorite foods. His pet peeves are "stuck‑up" girls and girls who wear too much make‑up.

When asked about this year's baseball squad, Chip excitedly replied, "This is the best team Maine West has ever fielded; not only do we have a good team, but two excellent coaches."

Chip not only rates high on the baseball diamond, but also on the wrestling mat. Before he obtained a chest injury in his sophomore year, he won 12 out of 13 decisions his freshman year.

Fixing and driving his Volkswagon occupies most of his time when he is not practicing pitching or doing homework. One of the "Chipper's" best fans is a certain brown‑haired junior girl.
