One of the most treasured memories in a person's life is that of the Senior Prom. That extra special social event draws a person into a mysterious wonderland of enchantment and romantic fantasy whose charm and mood cannot be explained in a few simple words. It may be said to be a hypnotic state of mind.
Under the guidance of Karen Strom, Prom committee chairman, and John Aegerter, decorations chairman, much work and planning has been done with the help of the class co‑sponsors Mr. Ralph Sides and Miss Ruth Basenbach.
A couple may open a door of the cafeteria in a school known as Maine West, but will step into a Japanese Heaven on earth. By the use of a little imagination and creativity, the cafeteria, social room, and patio will be transformed into Japanese tea gardens, complete with lantern illumination, goldfish ponds, pagodas, and the scent of cherry blossoms.
The refreshments, which will include fortune cookies, hors d'oeuvre, and jade‑green punch, will add to the exotic oriental atmosphere.

The two bands which will provide the entertainment will not consist of such instruments as the biwa, koto, takko, and hicahiriki as many orient‑minded people may think, but will comprised instead of a bass, piano, brass instruments, and drums. The two bands a r e known as the Jim Destman and the Mel Roland bands.
An after‑Prom party will take place at the Villa Venice, which is located at Milwaukee and Mannheim Roads.
All seniors are invited to come with dates from Maine West or other schools to the Prom on May 31, from 9 to 12 p.m., and also to the after Prom party by the committee, which includes, besides Karen and John, Chuck Hawes, band Chairman; Jan Wandrey, invitations; and Donna Wiese, publicity.
Seniors who can possibly do so are urged to help with the decorations on Thursday and Friday, May 30 and 31. "The only thing that can be said about this Prom, " Karen said, "is that it will be unusual. It's going to be the best Senior Prom a Maine West class will ever have."
