THE MAINE POINT
by John Gauger
The coming of a foreign exchange student will create a greater responsibility for the average Maine West student.
We will need a greater respect for our student government. Apathetic attitudes will be perceived by our guest and thereby promulgated in her home country.
We must indoctrinate her with American democracy. With good indoctrination the indoctrinee does not realize that she has been influenced but that she has reached her conclusions by independent thought.
Lastly we must have pride in our country, community, schools, and ourselves. For, if we do not have pride in these things, it is reasonable to assume that she will not acquire the same pride out of the clear blue sky.
Off the record, if the Moehlings make the student do housework, they will be the first American family to receive "foreign-aid."
Interval! Crusade
Help enlist Maine West into a modern crusade. It's to keep one car length interval for every 10 MPH and it's called INTERVAL! Authorities say if this is kept up rear-end accidents will drop as much as 45 per cent. This means lower insurance rates so by all means try it.
Where Have All The Mirrors Gone.
Mirror, mirror on the wall where are you? All the mirrors in the boy' washrooms are disappearing. This might be some sort of a Communist plot! Speaking of Communists, do you know what the latest answer is to "What's black and white and red all over?" Good old America. Compliments of the John Birch society. Thank you very much!
