Math Brains Cop 7th Place
Mike Amling '65, Steve Priest '63, and Don Grundler '64, were judged West's three highest scorers in the recent mathematics contest. Mike scored 97.25 and placed fifth in state individual ranking. Maine West took a seventh place for the school.
"Last year Maine came in 29. We are looking forward to next year's contest, hoping we can again make an impressive showing," informed Mr. Larew Collister, math teacher.
The mathematics contest is sponsored by the Mathematics Association of America along with the Acturarial society. This is a national contest and all schools take the same test.
More than 300 schools in Illinois participated in this year's contest. Anyone obtaining a score of 150 received a gold medal. Two students in the United States received this coveted medal. In Illinois the high score was 137.
