Netmen Take 3 in District

The tennis team competed in the District tennis meet over the weekend and on Monday. The Warriors finished third behind Arlington and Maine East, while the squad's third place put them ahead of Prospect in the District standings.

In single competition Terry Albers '63, and Jim Gaverth '63, carried the torch for West by reaching the semi‑finals. Although both boys played well, they were defeated in close play.

In doubles competition, the team of Bob Poyer '64 and Cliff Vogel '64 went into the semi‑finals, but lost to Arlington 7‑5, 6‑2.

At present the squad holds third place in conference standings, behind Willowbrook and Deerfield.

During the last several weeks the varsity tennis squad has picked up a win by shutting out Leyden West 5‑0. The doubles teams of Bill Wagner '64 ‑ Jim Wench '64, and Bob Poyer '64 - Cliff Vogel '64, won their matches as did the singles players, Terry Albers '63, Jim Gaverth '63, and Steve Priest '63.

Two days before the West Leyden match the Warriors also beat the Forest View Falcons. The team of Tom Kelly '63 ‑ Frank Dennis '63, combined their doubles victory with that of Poyer ‑ Vogel. The victory in the singles matches, due to the playing of Gaverth, Priest, and Albers, gave the Warriors another shut out.
