MAINE WEST'S frosh‑soph golfers will try to better their record Monday when they meet Forest View in a home meet. In previous meets, West's duffers lost seven out of their first nine encounters. On May 6, the Warriors lost a tough one, 377‑384 to Glenbard East. High men in this meet, as in others, were Clyde Rowells with an 89 and Craig Erven with a 95.
THE WARRIOR frosh‑soph tennis squad swept two matches from the underclass squads of Forest View and West Leyden 5‑0 and 4‑1, respectively. Their record now stands at 3‑1, with a total of seventeen points in the standings. Although they will not compete in the District meet, the squad will accompany the varsity in the two matches against Glenbrook's Spartans.
THE FRESHMEN baseball team has been hard at work. The diamondmen are in third place in the conference as of April 29. Prior to this date, the team defeated Forest View, 4‑0, and East Leyden, 7‑0.
THE SOPHOMORES are in first again. As of April 29, the sophs baseball squad were on top of the heap with a record of 6‑0‑0. The last two games for the "fantastics" were against Forest View and East Leyden. Both were Warrior victories, 3‑0 and 7‑0, respectively.
IN THE OVALMEN'S LAST meet against Niles West, on May 8, Maine West collected 12 firsts. Since Easter, the Warriors have taken 12 or more first places for every dual meet they have run in. The score for the meet was another victory of 87‑31.
The first place awards went to Bob Tatge, high jump; Bruce Congalton, low hurdles; Leroy Schlegel, 100 and 220‑yard dashes; Rich Bokor, 440‑yard dash; Lloyd Schlegel, 880‑yard run; John Schneider, mile run; Maine West, mile relay; Bill Rosenburgh, shot put; Tom Smith, discus; Paul Neuman, high jump; and Phil Boyce, pole vault
Leroy Schlegel has proved to be in excellent running condition as he broke the Maine West 100‑yard dash record with a time of 10 seconds flat. In the meet against Forest View, he beat his own record and tied the state 220‑yard dash record, with a time of 21 seconds.
