John Bade '63, has been announced as the third Maine West student to receive a four year merit scholarship. He won a New England Mutual Life Insurance company Merit scholarship in nationwide competition.

John joins Kathy Ditton and Ingrid Gustus as senior recipients of 1963 National Merit scholarships. Michigan State university is the destination of John who intends to major in psychology.

During his years at West, John has been president of the National Honor society and has served on class council. He plays the trombone in dance bands, the school concert orchestra, concert band, and pep and show bands. John, also prominent in sports, has received his letter in track.

John was one of six scholarship recipients who received late appointments. All were selected from the finalist group in the 1962‑63 competition.
