MW Offers Counseling This Summer

Mr. Wayne Rosenquist, chairman of counselors at Maine West, has announced that in cooperation with Northern Illinois university a special opportunity for counseling and guidance will be made available this summer. This program will include 8th grade graduates who will attend Maine West as freshmen next fall.

Students desiring to participate in the program will be given a series of tests intended to assess the interest, abilities, and occupational aspirations of the students in order to guide them in vocational and career planning.

As a follow‑up to the testing, guidance counselors will meet with students and parents in individual sessions to discuss and interpret test scores and to explore vocational possibilities and choices.

According to Mr. Rosenquist, the counseling staff at West and District 207 school officials have given wholehearted endorsement to this program and consider it an outstanding opportunity for students.

Northern Illinois university will have 10 interns working under the direction of Dr. Wes Schmidt of the NIU guidance department to carry on the program. Each of the interns will be a person currently working as a school counselor who will be seeking to improve his skill and technique under the close supervision of Dr. Schmidt.

The registration fee, which is $2 to cover the cost of test materials, may be made now in the Maine West book store.
