Exchange Student for West Is Selected

Miss Ursula Hildur Krome, 16, of Hagen, Germany has been awarded an American Field Service scholarship to attend Maine Township High School West for the 1963‑64 school year, Morton Collins, president of the American Field Service Chapter of Des Plaines, Illinois, announced today.

Community‑wide interest in Des Plaines has made the scholarship possible, and the AFS appreciates this support, Mr. Collins said. The Maine West Student Council should be congratulated for initiating the project as a means of helping to create international good will, he emphasized.

An above average student, Miss Krome's interests are quite varied. She plans a career as a physical therapist and has completed a Red Cross course. She belongs to an adult sketching class, sings in her church choir, and plays both the piano and flute. Her knowledge of languages includes both English and French.

Miss Krome is equally active in sports, participating in both running track and basketball. As a member of a young people's track club she has won several prizes for races in which she has competed.

She is the eldest of four children, having two sisters and a brother. Her father is a safety engineer.

Because additional funds are needed for emergency purposes during the student's stay in Des Plaines, contributions are still being sought, Mr. Collins said. Any funds over this level will be applied to another such scholarship for the year 1964‑65, or to a fund to send a Maine West student overseas during the summer of 1964, or both.

Persons desiring to contribute should make their checks payable to American Field Service Chapter of Des Plaines, Illinois, and send them to Mr. Earl E. Williams, 320 Cambridge Road, Des Plaines.
