"When I heard my name, I just couldn't believe that it was really me they wanted," was the statement made by excited Jacquie Berndt, Homecoming queen of 1962.
Jacquie has belonged to Brotherhood society since her sophomore year, was a member of Student Council, and has been very active in Pom‑Pom squad for the last three years. In her first year on the squad she was only a sophomore. She is now captain of the squad. She feels this is the best Pom‑Pom squad yet because the members are really working to make it good. Jacquie had the honor of representing her class at the Christmas formal in her sophomore year.
She likes chocolate cake and chocolate ice cream. She does not like pumpkin pie or people that gossip about their friends. Jacquie once had a rabbit that she misses very much now that he's gone. When trying to practice a new routine for Pom‑Pom, she is often heard saying, "Come on you guys. Hurry up!" or, "For Pete's sake!"

When asked about something embarrassing, Jacquie mentioned practicing for last year's Homecoming with the band on a rainy day. When she was running onto the field, she slipped and fell. Just think of the uniform!
Jacquie's favorite subject is law, but she would like to go to the University of Illinois or Bradley university and major in elementary education. "Mr. Harold Baer has been very helpful to me in making a decision about a college," said Jacquie.
Jacquie feels that her high school years have gone too fast. She would like everyone to "Make the most of his or her high school years. Live every day as if it were your last because the days go so fast."
"I want to thank everybody at Maine West for this great honor. This is just a dream come true that I will always remember!" Jacquie exclaimed with much enthusiasm.
