MAINE WEST'S JV FOOTBALL squad celebrated Homecoming by crushing East Leyden 20‑6 last Friday.

Late in the third quarter, with East Leyden winning 6‑0, Bruce Congalton went off tackle to score the first Warrior touchdown. This made the score 6‑6. Then in the fourth quarter the Warriors broke open as Mike Greene got loose off guard twice for long yardage and two touchdowns. Wayne Azon split the uprights after the last two scores.

WEST'S JV GRIDMEN lost their second conference decision 27‑6 to Glenbrook North on Friday, October 12. Cal Lewis scored the lone Warrior touchdown in the first half. An attempt to kick the extra point failed leaving the score 7‑6 in favor of Glenbrook at halftime.

Glenbrook took charge in the second half scoring 20 points while the Warriors were blanked. This gave the Spartans the 27‑6 victory.

THE SOPHOMORE GRIDDERS continued to roll along as they extended their record to 6‑0. The sophs have not lost a game in two seasons, as they were the conference champs with an 8‑0 record last year. The soph‑squad rolled over Proviso West on Saturday, October 13. The final score was 32‑6. The Warriors scored all five of their touchdowns in the second half with Jerry Hanselmann getting three of them. Hanselmann scored on runs of 51 and 57 yards and also on a 22‑yard pass play. The other touchdowns were made by Mike Kuzich and Chuck Peterson. Tom Smith kicked two extra points.

IN THEIR LATEST GAME, the soph‑squad crushed East Leyden 45‑13. Leading the Warriors were Jerry Hanselmann and John Wehlan, each of whom scored a pair of touchdowns. Also scoring for the sophs were Jim Cichowski, Mike Kuzich, and Stoney Jackson. Tom Smith kicked two of the extra points while Hanselmann passed to Jackson for another.

MAINE'S ILL‑FATED FRESHMAN football team dropped their fifth straight game on Saturday, October 20, to East Leyden by the score of 20‑6. As in the past games the frosh had moved the ball inside their opponents' five‑yard line but were unable to score. Their lone touchdown came on a 45‑yard pass from Carl Martin to Jim Kautz.

The freshman B team, however, was able to come up with a 18‑0 victory over the Eagles.

THE FROSH‑SOPH HARRIERS captured fourth place in the conference meet held October 19 with a total of 105 points. Coach Barringer's seven top runners were Boyce 6, Kinder 10, Bokor 19, Schlegel 30, Tantone 40, Suske 51, and Abbott 60.

The frosh‑soph team clobbered East Leyden on October 16 by the score of 19‑40. The first five runners from West were Boyce 1, Bokor 2, Schlegel 3, Kinder 5, and Tantone 8.

ON OCTOBER 12, the frosh‑soph harriers edged out Deerfield 27‑31. Boyce, Schlegel, Boker, Yager, Suszko, and Martin were the first six Warriors to cross the finish line.

In their latest meet the frosh‑soph runners nipped West Leyden by the score of 27‑28. Their record now stands at six wins and no losses. They hope to end the season undefeated, but they still must meet Niles West in a meet next week.

THE BOYS BOWLING LEAGUE is now in full swing. The sponsors of this league are Mr. Hommerding and Mr. Bencriscutto. At the present time Ralph Testo holds the high game with 232 and he also has the high series of 587. Dick Chamberlain has the high average in the league of 173. The officers of the league consist of Jon Grubert, president: Den Bredar, treasurer, and Jim Kelly, secretary.

On Tuesday, November 6, the top 10 players in the league will bowl against a team consisting of faculty members. Anyone is invited to come to Sim's Bowl and watch.
