Top Seniors Score High On NMS

On Thursday, November 1, seventeen West seniors were presented with Letters of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship commission by Mr. Herman Rider and Mr. Wayne Rosenquist.

The seniors receiving the letters were Gail Anderson, Sue Bornhoeft, Kathy Bracher, Sue Lane, Sue Luebbers, Sue MacHattie, Val Olson, Pat Powers, SuJane Schreyer, John Collister, Bill Dautel, John Erickson, John King, Jim Ramsey, John Schafer,

John Toth, and Jim Witkay. Carol Anderson and Luanne Ball, also letter-receivers, were not present to receive their letters, as Carol moved during the summer and Luanne graduated last year.

The purpose of the Letters of Commendation is the recognition and commendation of high scores made on the NMS test taken by juniors last spring. Of the 596,000 students who took the test, these 17 were among 28,700 students who received Letters of Commendation. These students constitute about two per cent of all secondary school seniors
