East & West Equals WMTH

On the air! Maine East and Maine West are combining their efforts to serve the community through radio station WMTH.

WMTH, which broadcasts at 88.5 megacycles on the FM dial, has obtained membership in the National Association of Educational Broadcasters Radio network. Due to this, WMTH has access to a vast quantity of professionally taped broadcasts, such as "The Reader."

Student‑Operated

The student‑operated station now broadcasts on a new schedule of 12 noon to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. "I feel that a radio station such as ours has an obligation to the public," explains Mr. Jack Coombe, WMTH advisor. Because of the new schedule, homemakers and residents of the community will be able to listen to the broadcasts.

Approximately two‑thirds of the broadcasting material is made up of educational tapes of science, literature, and music. Live presentations include weather reports, community news summaries, and coverage of Maine sporting events.

A wide and varied selection of musical broadcasts appeal to every musical preference. Offered to listeners are classical, jazz, folk, popular, and dinner‑time melodies. Typical I of such variety are "On Stage Everybody," featuring Broadway melodies, and "The Wonderful World of Folk Music," which are broadcast on Thursday and Friday, respectively.

Studio Under Construction

An electronically remote‑control studio is under construction at Maine West. Although several Maine West students have been active in WMTH broadcasting, it has been necessary to commute between the two schools. With the establishment of the studio here at Maine West, taped broadcasts will be transmitted to the broad casting studio at Maine East by telephone. Eventually the Maine West studio will broadcast for an entire day or two each week.

Heading WMTH operations at Maine West are Davis Hall '64, and John Schafer '63. Staff members including writers, announcers, and secretaries are needed to enlarge the present staff of approximately 30 members. Students involved in this project are expected to work after school or during their study hail periods. Interested students should contact either John or Davis for further information.

The educational material broadcasted on WMTH is highly informative, uniquely interesting, and purely educational in content.

Announce Games

Warrior fans unable to attend home basketball games will be able to hear them on WMTH. An exciting play‑by‑play coverage of varsity games and tournament games in the spring will be featured.

For the benefit of instructors and other listeners, WMTH semester schedules are posted in homerooms and listed in parent bulletins. Schedules may be obtained by writing WMTH, care of Mr. Jack Coombe, Maine Twp. H.S.
