Have you noticed a slender, dark‑haired young woman in the halls recently? She is Miss Carol Duthie, one of the two new Spanish teachers at West.
Miss Duthie has taught at other schools in this area, but finds Maine West as the most enjoyable. She thinks West has a fine student body and excellent classes.
Miss Duthie's main interest, travel, has taken her to Mexico and Europe on a two‑and‑a‑half month tour. She also enjoys sports, swimming, and skiing, and, as most teachers, reading.

Being taken as a student by other members of the faculty is only one of the odd experiences about which Mr. Jack F. McCarthy, a new art teacher at West this year, can boast.
Mr. McCarthy, who won't reveal what his middle initial stands for, attended Joliet Junior college in his home town of Joliet, Illinois. He later transferred to Southern Illinois and finally went to Northern Illinois where he earned his B.A. degree.
As a pastime Mr. McCarthy enjoys hunting and other sports, and playing chess.
When asked about Maine West, Mr. McCarthy reflected, "I like Maine and all the people here, both students and faculty."
