Amer. Education Week Observed

During this week of November 12‑16 the general public observed American Education Week. Newspapers announced it, and teachers stressed it during classes. What value does this week have?

Every year the President denotes the second week of November as American Education week. Is this done simply because it is tradition, or is there a purpose involved?

Consider this year's theme, "Education Meets the Challenge of Change." Our environment is always changing. These changes have to be met in the most learned way; if they aren't, we will lose our rank of power and prestige.

Education is more than a national statistic. No matter how valuable and precious everything else seems the strength of America lies in the knowledge of its citizens, especially its younger ones.
