Gridmen End 2nd in League

Head football coach Ken Olson believes that the Warriors' most successful season to date can be accredited to the overcoming of injuries which plagued the Warriors throughout the season. With a team coming up next year of more than 70 players who have been unbeaten for two years, Mr. Olson looks forward to a promising year in 1963.

Quarterback Dave Aegerter, tailback Al Klehr, and end Al Waters have been named to the all‑conference squad. Wingback Gary Kraft and center Ed Schwenke were given honorable mention. Waters also received nomination for the all‑state squad.

Warriors Finish Second

West's varsity gridmen ended the '62 season with their fourth and fifth conference victories. This gave the Warriors a 5‑1 conference record and sole possession of second place in the Interim conference. The gridmen finished with a 7‑1 overall record.

Plagued by a cold rain and the loss of quarterback Dave Aegerter, the Warriors snatched victory from defeat and came out on top, 20‑19, over the Trojans from Niles West in their last game of the season.

The Warriors spotted the Trojans a 19‑7 halftime lead before they began to roll. The lone Warrior tally in the first half came on a reverse with Gene Ciezadlo carrying the ball across the goal.

West received the second half kick and then began to move. Dan Humay completed four out of five passes to Al Waters. Humay then plunged off tackle for the last three yards and the second Warrior touchdown. Humay also scored the final West touchdown on a one yard plunge after the Warriors had marched 80 yards in eight plays. John Gabbert kicked two out of three extra points giving the Warriors the 20‑19 victory.

In a game played at Wheaton, the Warriors spoiled the Tigers' homecoming by overpowering them 25‑7. West scored their touchdowns in the first, second, and fourth quarters, while the Tigers only score came in the third period.

Charlie Curren hit Al Waters with two touchdown passes, and he also ran for one on a threeyard end sweep. Gene Ciezadlo scored the other Warrior touchdown. John Gabbert converted for one extra point.
