'Catamount' Debate Squad Receives
Excellent Ratings

"Our debate team this year is the most catamount, assiduous team we have had in years," remarked Mr. E. U. Edstrom, social studies teacher and debate sponsor. This forceful team has recently received two excellent ratings from the Suburban Interstate debate league. The debate team is also a member of the National Forensic league.

This year's debate team consists of a motley crew of about 22 members from all levels of classes. The debate squad is divided into three partitions: Varsity, Junior Varsity, and Frosh-Soph teams. Each year a member with 50 points is eligible for a debate emblem, and a total of 100 points is necessary for a member to

become eligible for the Maine West Forensic society. These awards are presented at the debate Award tea, sponsored by the Maine West Forensic society.

A debate will be held on January 19, with North Chicago High school. The topic of this debate will be Resolved: That the United States should promote a common market for the Western Hemisphere. This topic will be debated throughout the year with different schools.

A Christmas party will be given by the Forensic society for all members of the debate team. The party is open only to members of the debate team.
