THE SOPHOMORES HOLD A 2‑1 season record and a 1‑C conference record. Last Saturday, December 8, the little Warriors defeated the Deerfield quintet by a score of 38‑22. Charlie Curren was high man with 12 points. The squad sank 10 field goals and 18 free throws.
On November 21, the sophs suffered their only loss to a strong Waukegan team. Jim Smith, now on varsity, led the hoopsters in the scoring with nine. The Warriors put up a good fight but lost, 39‑25.
The underclass basketmen opened their season against Barrington with a 37‑21 victory over the Broncos. Stoney Jackson was high man for the sophs with 11 points.
THE FROSH HAVE A 1‑1 RECORD this season with a victory over Deerfield and a loss to Willowbrook. Last Saturday, December 8, the frosh beat Deerfield, 36‑35, on a free throw by Moehling with two seconds remaining. Moehling was also high scorer with 15 points.
The frosh lost to Willowbrook by a score of 63‑35. Burson and Kulik tied for honors in the scoring department with seven points each.
THE SOPHOMORE GRAPPLERS defeated the Deerfield Warriors by a score of 32‑12, December 8. Fowler, DiMatteo, and Svenson each pinned their opponents. Other Westmen winning were Stamborski, Pier, Crowden, Quarnstrom, and Bixby.
November 27, the sophs matched wits with the Barrington Broncos and came out on top by a score of 30‑17.
The little Warriors winning were Deahr, Currer, Koulentes, O'Hare, Fowler, Crowden, DiMatteo, Cichowski, and Kruse. Currin and Kruse were the only ones to pin their opponents. The sophs hold a season record of 2‑0 with a 1‑0 conference record.
WITH A CLEAN WIN RECORD in its first three matches, and a narrow loss to East Leyden, the JV grapplers will host Willowbrook tonight.
Falling to the muscles of the JV team were Prospect, 30 to 21; Evanston, 40 to 5; and Proviso West, 29‑16.
Last Friday, against East Leyden, the Warriors lost a close one, 19 to 22. Terry Albers, Terry Klatt, Tom Koulentes, Bud Lewis, Joe Panegasser, and Jim Richards won their matches. The heavyweights fell victim to East Leyden, losing the upper five weight classes.
THE FROSH WRESTLERS opened their wrestling season with a loss to Evanston, and then a victory over Deerfield.
On December 8, the frosh whipped the Deerfield squad by a score of 28‑20. Five Deerfield opponents were pinned by Mordue Hansch, Kautz, Martin, and Manhart. Others winning were Harman, Bockman, and Rudd.
December 1, the Warrior frosh lost to a tough Evanston team by a score of 28‑20. Manhart was the only Westman to pin his opponent. Other Warriors winning were Hansen, Rozanski, Bockman, and Kautz. The freshman coach is Mr. Suffield.
THE FROSH-SOPH MERMEN hold a 1‑3 season. The squad, under Coach Roy Kearns, has several good swimmers. Rick Schultz, a sophomore breaststroker, was moved to the varsity. Other tankmen are Rick Fulle, Dick Heller, Dave Ladendorf, and Dick Hoffmeyer. The next meet will be against Proviso West, December 21.
THE JV'S HOLD A 1‑3 standing in the Interim conference.
They were defeated by Waukegan, Proviso, and Prospect by scores of 46‑40, 46‑32, and 40‑37, respectively. A victory over Leyden, 41‑37, was the JV's only win.
