Cagers 3-0 in League;
Waukegan Only Loss
Tonight the Warrior bucket squad, under Coach Gaston Freeman, will travel to Willowbrook to meet the Warriors. The blue-gold-and-white have faced Maine West three previous times, each time scoring only 52 points. The West Warriors have been victorious every time by scores of 59-52, 83-52, and 62-52. Willowbrook boasts a strong squad this year.

Saturday night the varsity quintet will take the court against the Deerfield Cardinals in the Maine East fieldhouse. In their only contest thus far, the Warriors walloped Deerfield by a score of 79-30. The JV game will begin at 7 p.m. with the varsity contest getting under way at approximately 8:30 p. m.

The Warriors have now won four and lost only one game. The varsity bucketmen have been victors in all of their three conference games.

Beat the Knights

On November 30, the Warriors traveled to Prospect where they registered their first conference victory over the Knights. The 46-38 win was also the first time that a Maine West team has beaten the tough Prospect basketball team.

The first half was close, with the Warriors starting the scoring on a jump shot by De Kreek. The Westmens' 3-0 lead was soon overtaken and the Knights led 7-3. The Warriors tied up the score at 7-7, but another Knight goal made it 9-7 at the end of the quarter. In the second quarter the Knights built up a 14-10 lead only to have the Warriors come back in the final three minutes of the half to take the lead 18-16.

The second half was controleed more by the Warriors as they scored 28 points to Prospect's 22. The Warriors never let the Knights come closer than within three points of the lead. With one minute left in the game, the Warriors led 46-36 as the Maine West section took up the chant "We beat the Knights". A last second jump shot gave Prospect its final score to give Maine West its final eight point margin of victory.
Barney Franzen led both teams in scoring with 16 points while Aegerter finished with 13. Waters, who was double-teamed throughout the game managed only eight points. White of Prospect collected only 12 points, as Prospect's high scorer.

Last Friday the visiting Proviso Panthers were stopped by the West cagers, 51-41. This second conference match was another tight one, as the score remained close until the last quarter. The Panthers of Proviso led only once during the game, 2-1, on a basket after a free throw by Waters. However the Warriors were ahead to stay, 7-2, after only five minutes of play.

After a 12-8 first quarter, the Panthers outscored the Warriors in the second quarter but still trailed 21-18 at the half.

Al Waters again led the Warrior offensive attack with 21 points while Franzen collected ten points. High scorer for West Proviso was Simons with 15 points.

Waters Breaks Record

The Warriors remained tied for the Interim League lead with Niles West as they defeated the East Leyden Eagles, 76-58, on the Eagles' home court.

The beginning of the game was gloomy as the Warriors trailed 5-0 before they could score. The Eagles led 9-2 before the Warriors got up steam to end the first quarter 14-10. Finally with seven minutes remaining, Waters put through a lay up to put the Warriors ahead to stay 16-15. The 25 points scored by the Warriors in this quarter is their high total thus far this year.

The Warriors continued to pour it on as they outscored the Eagles in the remaining quarters while they built up their 76-58 victory. The fourth quarter was a high scoring affair as the Warriors pumped in 23 points to 21 points by the Eagles.

Al Waters scored 32 points to break the existing East Leyden fieldhouse record as he sank 15 goals and two free throws.
