A full weekend of activity awaits West's varsity grapplers. Tonight they take on Willowbrook's matmen in a home contest beginning at 7 p.m. in A‑wing gym. Tomorrow afternoon they will travel to Deerfield for a 2 p.m. match.
Coach Carlini's wrestlers are currently in second place in the Interim Conference with a two‑win, one‑loss record in conference competition and an overall three win, loss record. East Leyden heads the League standings with a four win, no loss record.
The matmen need a double win Friday and Saturday to keep them in the conference race.
Commenting on the squad, Coach Carlini remarked, "Thus far, the team has shown good determination and has worked hard. There's still room for improvement, however, and with a difficult schedule ahead the boys will have to continue their hard work to succeed."

Thus far, the squad has been led by three juniors who are undefeated in four meets. Dick Jensen, 95 lbs., Al Millen, 103 lbs., and Erv Geisler, 138 lbs., all have four‑win, no loss records. Rick Battles, '63, has also been a valuable point getter in the heavyweight class.
The Westmen started the season by traveling to Barrington to take on the Broncos. They returned home with a 23‑16 victory. The grapplers then started the conference schedule by dumping arch‑rival Prospect, 25‑14 in a home meet. Proviso West fell next before the Warrior matmen. They invaded Proviso and emerged with a 25‑15 victory. Perennial power East Leyden became the first team to successfully thwart the Westmen's advance. In a meet not decided until the final match, Leyden nipped the Warriors 22‑16.
