FTA Tries New Idea
The Future Teachers club is experimenting with an idea never before tried in Illinois. A majority of the 41 members of the club are tutoring students before and after school. Tutors are assisting teachers with groups of students or helping teachers correct themes. This semester the tutors are all upperclassmen, but underclassmen will begin tutoring second semester.

The Future Teachers club operates on a point system. Students receive five points per session for tutoring and for helping teachers with special projects during a study period or after school. Ten points per session may be obtained by tutoring a group of students or by observing a class
and preparing a written report. By presenting a lesson before the FTA group, a student may obtain 20 points. A practice teaching session before an actual class will enable the student to receive 40 points.

Awards are given to students for the various levels of achievement in the FTA. With an accumulation of 100 points, the student will be initiated into the club. After observing a class, presenting a lesson before the FTA, and accumulating 300 points, a pin will be awarded. The third level may be achieved by teaching a class and accumulating 500 points for which a certificate is awarded.
